Bangkok is famous for excellent tailors and low prices ( guess 80% cheaper then US tailors) and there are so many to choose from. While in Bangkok you would find there are Tailors in every street of Bangkok and the touts and Tuk Tuk would be trying get you in the shops to gain overhead charge or commission on the purchase you make.
The first and most important rule is do not enter any shop that has a deal that is too good to be true - all those shops selling "2 Cashmere Suits / 2 Silk Shirts etc for USD 150" are all gimmicks. The advertisement are there in the airplane magazines to various types of brochures and Maps available.
DO NOT enter any shops that you are taken to by guides - you get ripped of as the guides get commission. Tuk Tuks and taxis also take you to guide shops - it is better to call the tailor.
I have used many tailors in Bangkok and have been totally impressed with Excelsior in downtown area. A must visit shop by the delegates and embassy staff in Bangkok.A must visit shop by the delegates and embassy shops in Bangkok.
I was shown a sample of suit jacket done, pretty decent i must say.. fully canvassed and the works.. They have a decent Fabio Balberni and Gino Matteo book... I got a 2pc suit using the top quality workmanship, and that came up to around (US$350), They got some nice cashmeres for winter jacket too.
My initial feelings about the place are good and i'm going to jump in later 6 month or next for more clothes.
Excelsior is surely a great place for great suits.
Mind you, they speak a few languages too.. So don't converse in Mandarin in front of them thinking they don't understand you...You'll be surprised !!!
They are located opposite Tawana hotel and Le meridien hotel in Bangkok.
