    Hi,
I'm going to go to a persian language class this year when I go to Tehran and was wondering where I could get information about bus timetables and routes. The class is at the Dekhoda Institute and the address they gave me is:
    International Center for Persian Studies
Moughoufate Dr. Afshar, Pesyan Bus Stop
    Vali-e-Asr Ave., Shemiran, Tehran

I'll be staying near Enghelab Square and can walk to Jomhuri Eslami Avenue or Keshavarz Boulevard. Can anyone help me out? I'll be there from the 14th Dec to 6th Jan.

    Thanks and hope everyone's well

    Hi,

I know exactly what you are talking about! Well,....In the last 6 months or so at least 3 indivduals (from HongKong, Denmark, USA) chose to contact me who initially told me they were planning to study Farsi at Dekhhoda Inst. I helped them as much as I could and, in fact, two of them are still here. Anyway, as for your questions I must tell you that Enghelab Square is quite far from (6miles, 10km) the D.I. and getting the in the morning and getting back home at night would be be quite a nightmarish challenge for you considering Tehran's absolutely horrible and never-ceasing traffic jam specially during rush hours!

So, the easiest way for you to get to D.I. is to look for the so-called 'shuttle cabs' (taxihaye khatti) right near Enghaleb Ave that would take you non-stop to Vanak, from where you MUST and can tranfer to another 'shuttle cab' to Tajrish! Once you are on the second cab ask the driver to get you off near Dehkhoda. Both cabs together would cost you just about 1000 tomans. But be warned it may take you over an hour to get there in the morning...and back home in the evening! No kidding!

having said that, the only 2 other viable alternatives that come to my mind are:

    a) call a cab company from your home ( not a shared/shuttle cab!) and get a ride to Dekhoda, which will cost you, i would say, about 3500 tomans. keep in mind you would of course have to pay the same amount coming back home in the evening! so it is a much more expensive transporation system. Let's put it that way.

    b) find out if there is a 'direct' bus route from the Enghleb Square to Tajrish and back! If there is, you are in luck and all set! I do not know there is any however. I would have to find out.

You can take BRT (The express line which crosses Enghelab Sq.) for Tohid Juntion. (2-3 station west of Enghelab Sq.) From there taking Jomhuri-Tajrish bus which takes Chamran(Parkway) Highway and has a bus-reserved lane speeding up the trip. There shall be a station right before Tajrish square in front of Dehkohda Inst. (Pesyan St. as you mentioned)
There are buses almost every min. for BRT and every 5-10 min. for Jomhuri-Tajrish.

    Hello,

Both two above posts are right and useful.
In the other hand there is a direct express bus route (not really express!) from Enghelab Sq. to Tajrish Sq. and costs 1000 Rls. (100 tomans)

United Bus Company of Tehran: www.ubct.ir
Unfortunately it's only in Farsi and most of pages are under construction!!

    Hi,

If there is in fact a 'direct' bus line from Enghelab Square to Tajrish as 'aliamiri (see above replies) has pointed out, that would be wonderful and..... also by far the easiest and least expensive way of getting to your class at Dehkhoda! Otherwise, I think the second best option is to get on one of those so-called shuttle cabs I told you previously for 'Enghelab-Vanak' or 'Enghelab-Tajrish', although I doubt the latter even exist! Meanwhile, I think 'Parsi', in her reply, is referring to the Toopkhaneh-Tajrish bus line which you may catch on the junction of Enghalab and Jomhouri Avenue. However, remember they run every 30 minutes?, and always unbearably crowded and hence you would have to stand on your feet, for one hour squeezed between dozens of people, until you get to your destination! That is the truth. See my PM. Take care. Bye
