Niagara Falls   (6 posts)

Finally booked our trip to Niagara Falls for this summer. We will be only going for 4 days/3 nights. We will fly into Buffalo and will be staying at the Radisson on the Canada side. We did not rent a car because parking fees are $20/day at the hotel. Does anyone have any advice on this? Should we arrange for a shuttle or are there ones that will take us from the airport to the hotel or should we just hail a cab? I read that everything is pretty much in walking distance so was not renting a car a smart thing to do?

I think you probably made the right decision to not rent a car. Here is a link for a shuttle service which runs from Buffalo airport to either Niagara Falls USA or Niagara Falls Canada. (I have not used this service so I cannot recommend it, but it is likely a good option.) I would suggest you take the one straight to Niagara Falls Canada as that will bring you across the border. (Be sure and bring proper ID to cross the border) http://www.buffaloairporttaxi.com/

While in Niagara Falls, Canada you do not need a rental car. there is a "People Mover system" which runs to all the sites. You can find info about it at http://www.niagaraparks.com/planavisit/peoplemover.php

The only time you might encounter a problem where you would need a taxi is if you decided you wanted to visit Niagara on the Lake. Getting public transportation to this town might be a bit more difficult.

A big thanks for the great advice and useful links vanclan. I'm planning to include the Niagara falls in our Honeymoon and this will be of great help. I've also been looking for information on this!

In case you have the time...
I also really enjoyed taking a side trip to Toronto when I visited Niagara Falls.

I only went for the weekend and it was easy with the train!

What a really great suggestion! I looked into this and maybe we can actually incorporate this into our trip, a day in Toronto sounds like fun! Did you spend your day walking in downtown?

Yes, we walked around all day Saturday and on Sunday morning. The kids loved Chinatown especially, with all the colours and people, but we also walked down Queen Street, Yonge Street, popped into used book stores, shopped for shoes. Visited Kensington Market and bought some great vintage clothes in the market stalls.

As for food, we had some great veggie dogs in the Square at Yonge and Dundas, and we had the most amazing dumplings in an all-dumpling restaurant on Spadina in Chinatown. Go if only for the food!

Then on Sunday afternoon, we took the train home again. Simply a pleasure all around...
