Diving - Egypt   (6 posts)

    Hey all,
basically, my sis and i are looking at flying into Cairo in the end of July, getting the bus over to Harghuda (or however you spell it!), spending a few days there and then getting a boat over to Sharm and Dahab to do some serious diving there!
I'm AOW, and she's only OW but looking to do AOW while we're there, and we both want to do EFR and First Aid out there..
Are there any companies you can recommend? In terms of money, we're not exactly loaded but we do want to make sure we go diving safely and have a great time doing it- PADI is a must, and have seen a few so far but aren't really sure which are the best? Any recommendations?
Also, in terms of accomodation we're not too picky.. as long as it has AirCon and beds we're not really fussed.
The buses that run throughout Egypt, anyone got any idea as to what the companies are called?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Dahab was fantastic. I had to force myself out of there. I knew that otherwise, I would never want to come back into the western world

i don't think i was in the ark, the cafes i was talking about was the ones actually on the beach, your 'chair' was a strategically placed cushion or bean bag, your table was about half a foot high, the umbrellas were palm trees, and most of the time the kitchen was across the path ,....

I loved Dahab and found it to be the most relaxing and inexpensive of all the choices for diving etc... You can get a bus from Cairo to Dahab which isn't too expensive, I'll check the names out for you over the weekend and post it on Monday. If I'm honest though I would stay away from Hurghada unless you are into the package style holiday as that is what you will be surrounded by. It would be cheaper to that in Tenerrife, etc

For accomodation , we had a great place that was cheap with aircon at the sea front that i can send you a link for on Monday too, but to be honest in Dahab a lot of the places are very similar, not too expensive and have great atmospheres

The buses are not too bad but private taxis are cheap and much quicker.

The diving... Hurghada is quite expensive for courses. It's a good place to pick up a boat though - make sure you go to the thistlegorm and the brothers.

Dahab is the best place to take a course. I suggest you try 'divers house' for the course and accomodation.

Sharm is expensive but worth a day trip at least to Ras Mohamed
