Turkey is a great place to visit!
    Yes it is safe!!!

    Highlights are:
    Istanbul-the heart of Turkey!
Gallipoli (for Australian and New Zealanders WW 1 Battle fields)
Selcuk to see Ephesus and sites
Pamukkale to visit the cotton castles
Koycegiz to do a day boat trip to visit mud baths, turtle beach and hot springs.
Fethiye to see the sites. Also do a 3 day boat cruise from here ending in Olympos.
Kas- just a nice place to visit!
Olympos to sleep in tree houses, walk through ruins and end up on a beach!
Cappadokia to visit the underground cities, ferry chimnies and sleep in cave rooms.
Black Sea coast- Trabzon to see the monastry and to get your visa for Georgia...as I dont think you can enter directly to Armenia from Turkey.

Transportation- The bus system in Turkey is great! Good connections, cheap and reliable!

Feel free to PM me for information regarding good cheap accommodation.

I also came back from a vacation in Turkey and it was absolutely fascinating!! I loved spending time there and I will definitely go there next year and whenever I have time. The nature is beautiful, mountains, great beaches and its history.. Also very very cheap for such beauty!! I think you must go there!!

Having just returned from Turkey, we found it just so cheap compared to Greece with its Euro. Lots of cheap accommodation depending on what you are looking for. We stayed in the Pensions mentioned in Lonely Planet and found them to be excellent in nearly all instances.

Food is very cheap as is the bus transport. Entrance fees to the historical sites can knock the budget around but Turkey has so much history it would be a shame to miss any of the main sites.

We lived very well on around 55 Euro total for 2 of us and that was all up expenses including alcohol,(didn't want to miss our daily beer and wine) could have travelled cheaper than this if we had to. Just loved our time there.

I'm planning to go backpacking Turkey too, hopefully next year. Happy to find out that things are relatively cheap in Turkey! So, should I still go to Greece (knowing it is expensive with its Euro)?
