    Hi,
I plan to travel Spain in April for 9 days. I fly into Malaga and out of Barcelona. I would like to visit the following places Malaga, Granada, Alicante, Valencia and Barcelona.
Has anyone any advice for the best way to travel to each place? Should I hire a car or travel by bus or train??

    Hi,
Yeah, the traffic in Barcelona isn't that great- but the public transportation there is extremely efficient, especially the metro. Valencia isn't too big and you can get across it by bus in about half an hour- I did it. The buses to more remote places take longer, though, and you might just be dropped off by the side of the road once you get to the town- that happened to me when my friends and I were going to Cullera.

My advice, though, would be to stick to Barcelona and maybe take a daytrip out to one place. Five cities in nine days is WAAAY too much! You can easily just spend those nine days in Barcelona alone! There is so much to do and see there! I would recommend seeing Gaudi's archetecture when you are there- it is absolutely out of this world, like nothing you will see anywhere else. I tried to see Barcelona in 3 days and regret it to this day, so to barely skip over it in a five city, nine day wirlwind would be a mistake for sure.

    Have fun in Spain! :)

A car would be good. You can drive up the north coast (Costa Brava) in Barcelona province. There are nice little Medieval towns which are very lovely.

My recommendation : visit Port Lligat ;)

    Cheers

    Thanks for everyones help!
I've just made the booking for car hire. I'll now be making my way along the coastline by car which seems like the best option.
I will still travel from Malaga to Barcelona as those are the flights
    I have booked.
If anyone has any further suggestions of things to do and see at the places I am visiting your help would be greatly appreciated.

(Malaga, Granada, Alicante, Valencia & Barcelona)

    Thanks again

Rail and bus are both esy, comfortable and cheap, but be aware that in that area are not always the most frequent, so make sure you plan well to avoid wasting lots of time in bus/rail stations.

Also, you do miss large chunks of out of the way places which are some of the nicest parts. However - as you aren't around for very long, i think you will struggle to do justice to more than 1 or 2 of the cities you mention, let alone all of them or trying to pack more stuff in. From a cost point of view and also the fact that you probably don't want the stress of driving in these city centres, i'd highly recomend just using Pub trans.
