   I need to know the rules in Sweden for placing local and long-distance phone calls. My primary concern is area codes. I know in some countries you must always dial the area code, and in others it is only for long-distance. How does it work in Sweden?

   That is a tricky one.... is there no way your boss can hook up to a network instead of dialing in? I used to have the exact same problem but usually if travelling for business there is a company or something similar being visited where you can log on through a network? In hotels this is usually also the type of connection offered...

   I know what you mean though. Is there a way to set it up to automatically always dial the area code? In Norway for example they always dial the full number (8 digits). That includes some type of area code I assume but everyone just dials it anyway because I guess it is necessary. However, here in the Netherlands we have a "seperate" area code which you don't have to dial if you are 'in the area' but you can if you want to and everything will still work. If there is a way to set up the computer to always dial the area code, then all you need to know is the area code every time (that is a bit of a challenge in itself I would suppose...).

   Thanks.

   My boss wants to just plug his computer into the phone jack in his hotel room, dial without any input from him, and connect to our network. Any other option that requires more thought or inter-action from him is not acceptable! :-)

   After two years of trial and error, we finally have a solution that is largely idiot proof. Remote Pipes provides the software and service, which makes local ISP dial-up numbers available all over the world. I call the hotel, ask for the number to dial to reach an outside line, program that in, and it is all set for him.

   The area code issue is a new one (we discovered it while he was in the Czech Republic). Normally, it always dials the area code, but that didn't work in Prague:-( One more question I have to remember to ask the hotel people, who often rarely speak English. I prefer to get all my answers from sources other than the dawn shift at Shangri-La Hotels, Myanmar, Burma :-)

   As far as I remember when phoning in Sweden you'll have to dial the area code (as in Denmark). I think that's quite common these days all over the world ????

   Just wonder if you have any specific problem with that right at this particular moment?? It shouldn't be any problem as far as I know, whenever you get a phone number the area code should be included as well.

   If you do have any particular questions regarding this matter or maybe other concerning Sweden, just let me know and I'll do my best to sort it out for you.

   Thank you. I wish there was an easier way to find the answer to my question. The president of our company travels all over the world, and I must configure his computer to dial local phone numbers to give him internet access. The most common problem is the software does not automatically dial the area code, but the particular country requires it. I have found it is not consistent throughout Europe.
