stuck on france!   (2 posts)

    Hi all,
We're a cheery backpacking couple from Australia planning our first European tour leaving May 08. We are applying for WHV each for France so as we can get some wwoofing work, some grape picking work and some resort/campsite work adding up to roundabout 12 months. At the mo, we're a bit stuck amongst ideas for flights to get there. Is it better for us to fly to London, then train it to Paris? Or fly straight into Paris? Some names of super cheap hostels that we can stay at for a few nights in both Paris and London? Any advice/ideas appreciated.

Hi...I have only ever booked intercontinental flights from the US and Canada, but I know that it is almost always cheaper to fly into London than any other city in Europe. So I'm not sure if that will be the case for you, but once you're in London you could either take a train or fly to Paris. It might be cheaper to fly than train as London is a hub for many discount airlines. A great site to look at for flights within Europe is www.harefares.com as it lets you choose multiple origin and destination cities and then shows you all the airlines that fly those routes. Might come in handy for you later too. As far as accommodations, the NH Hotel chain (www.nh-hotels.com) was very reliable for me when I was in Spain...clean, comfortable and always a reasonable price. You could also look at www.booking.com for hotels and hostels. Hope that helps!
