The beach is man-made and well maintained. it is mostly flat and about 150 yards wide. The water is not deep so it really works for children. You will have to go out pretty far to get deep water. Waves are 1-2 feet high due to the barrier islands not letting big waves through.
The water is clearer than it was twenty years ago.
Recommend bring a large umbrella. The beach are not crowded and there is plenty of room.
There is a water park that just opened last weekend just north of Long Beach/Gulfport that you'all may want to consider going to if you have time.
