Driving from Vancouver to Banff in Winter...   (2 posts)

    Does anyone know how often Roger's Pass is closed in the winter and how long it is typically cosed for? We would like to drive from Vancouver to Banff to go snowboarding this February but I don't wnat to book hotels and then find we can't get there! Any replies, advice, tips, suggestions very much apprecaited.

    Rogers pass is not often closed...at least not for extensive periods of time...where are you driving from? you might consider going the Yellowhead hwy from Edmonton through Jasper and down into BC. The Coquahalla Hwy can also be closed at times, as can the Fraser canyon. It's not too likely that you would be delayed more than 1/2 day unless there are big slides or a catastrophic snow strorm..again less chance of this on the Yellowhead. that route may add an hour or 2 to driving time. We drive from vancouver to Saskatoon and have used both routes. Generally the Yellowhead is less dangerous, less curving, less traffic!
