Well, I am no expert but my wife and I have taken about six cruises. Holland America, Windstar and Royal Caribbean. The cost of drinks is not exorbitant. About what you would expect to pay in any decent bar or resort. The prices are certainly no secret. As I recall, menus are available in the bars etc. As for taking your own alcohol on board, I dont think that anyone would mind if you were sipping from your own bottle in the privacy of your own cabin, but I doubt that you would want to be sitting out on the deck pouring drinks from your own flask. And who wants to sit in their cabin and drink? Cold soft drinks for mix would be available at machines. I havent seen a cabin with a refrigerator as yet but perhaps they exist on some lines. As for the price of wine at dinner, there is a wine list with prices that you can peruse to make your selection. Again priced at what you would expect to pay at a good restaurant. Unless, you are planning to do some serious drinking I wouldnt worry about the cost of alcohol. When you compare it to the overall cost of the holiday, it certainly isnt a big deal with us, but then we are quite modest in our intake. I hope that this helps. I saw your post a few days ago and thought that someone with a bit better knowledge of cruising might respond, but here it is for what it is worth. By the way, there are some great bargains for duty free booze on most of the islands, so you will have ample opportunity to stock up at the first port-of-call.
