It's all about the money (New Zealand)   (2 posts)

Hi All! I've been reading this forum for a couple of weeks now - and it's been so helpful.

I am currently applying for a WHV for New Zealand - Oct or Nov 08 departure. I have reached the max age limit so this is my last chance to do this.

Right now I have around $3000 CND in my regular savings. I also have quite a bit in my retirement savings plan -RRSP (which I'd obviously prefer not to touch if it can be helped). I need to show that I have at least $3300 CND available in order to get the WHV. Does the money I have in my retirement plan count? What about credit cards?(I have pretty high limits and no debts).

Of course, once I buy my plane ticket - there goes a big chunk of that change. I do have a job so I have 5 months to scrimp and save. (I can be very frugal)

Basically, what I'm asking I guess is whether anyone else find that they were cutting it close with the money and came out of it okay?

    Thanks!

    Hi there,

I've been through a lot with NZ Immigration, so I'm quickly gonna explain to you what the 'money thing' is about:

more or less NZ immigration wants to make sure, that you can support yourself while being in NZ.
When u fill in ur application form, they usually ask u, how u r gonna support ur stay in NZ etc.
So you can actually put everything in there: savings, support of parents, shares etc.
I would recommend (bec u have to prove it) that you send them a copy of your bank account, copies of your payslips etc.(anything that can help you egt ur visa quicklier)

it's usually not about having exactly 3300, it's like I said, more about making sure, that people sufficient funds.

You have to be very unlucky and get a really fussy officer if it's not like I've said, but I honestly don't think so.
I you had 1000$ only, it would be a different story.
