We stayed at the Outrigger, which was pretty good value I thought, characterful, friendly enough and clean, with a swimming pool though it is 15 minutes walk from the centre. We met people who stayed at the Princess Tui, and that sounds very similar.
I would go for 2 weeks on Upolu and 1 week on Savaii, I reckon there is a little bit more to see on Upolu plus you can retreat to Apia when the mozzie bites get too much :-) - we also went to Namua Island which was great, and some people we met had been to Manono Island which they found interesting.
