Yep, BBQ for christmas day would be sweet, thats what alot of us kiwis do if the weather is fine. Our chistmas usually consists of eating and lazing about and eating, usually at numerous different places (inlaws, parents, grandparents, friends) It has been known to be a bit wet, so a backup plan would be advisable. We haven't actually had a summer properly this year, more rain than sun in some parts of the country.:(
New years is pretty full on at Mt Maunganui, with a total liquor ban in place over the new year period, but it is usually still pumping. Another big place to go is Whangamata on the coramandel peninsular.
