Can anyone tell me the best stopovers.I would like to visit a South Pacific Island on the way there, but would I need a stopover before that.By stopover I mean to spend a few days in each place. As we'll be using B.A.miles we will be travelling BA/one world.Hoping to travel next November.

    Hi there,
I think you'll find that BA does not fly the Pacific route to NZ---they go via the far East. You can certainly fly BA to the west coast of USA but then would have to find out if a partner airline in the OneWorld alliance flew to NZ via the Pacific islands.Air NZ seems to have the monopoly on island stopovers and they are with Star Alliance.American Airlines might fly in to NZ but don't know if they do island stops.Going this route it's about 12 hours UK--LA then about the same again to Auckland.Other OneWorld partners are Quantas and Cathay Pacific--both flying the eastern route.

Just in regard to your best stopovers - would highly recommend stopping in the Cook Islands and DEFINITELY take a trip from Rarotonga to Aitutaki - it is truly magical. Not at all commercialised and your dream holiday snapshot type thing. We went to Rarotonga on our honeymoon and just took a day trip to Aitutaki and were disappointed we didn't stay for a couple of days there instead - total relaxation and complete beauty. Alot of the other South Pacific Islands are expensive and commercial these days.
