Hi, I'm planning a trip around some of Europe for August next year and I was wondering if anyone had any hints/advice or tips.
Basically myself and my husband are going to the Wacken festival from the 2nd-4th August near Hamburg in Germany and we decided to make a holiday of it. We are going on about the 30th July for about 2 weeks.
So far the (very rough!) plan is as follows:
Travel from Dublin via boat to Liverpool or Holyhead.
Drive from there to London and visit Thorpe park (!) Stay there for one night
Get the ferry / eurotunnel from Dover to Calais
Drive from Calais through Belgium, Netherlands and north to Hamburg
Stay in Wacken for the festival for 3 days
Drive south through Germany staying maybe somewhere in Bavaria for a night or two, we want to see some castles and that
kind of thing
Go through Switzerland and visit the Giger museum in Gruyeres
Drive through Geneva and back into france
Drive north through Lyon and stop in Paris for a night or two
Back up to Calais and drive to London for one or two more nights
Then home on the ferry from Holyhead / Liverpool
I'm more or less interested in any sights and travel info anyone can give, ie, any tips on taking my own car and what kind of documents and insurance, etc I will need. Any advice on whether it would be better to book some hotels and have a definite route or to go with the flow and stay mainly camping. We will have camping gear with us anyway because the festival is camping.
Thanks in advance!!!!
