I have to say that whilst I had been told by every second person how much I would love Scotland ... I was still aboslutely surprised by just HOW MUCH I loved it when I arrived!!!
Edinburgh is a magical city - the Old town was like nothing I had seen before coming from Aus. The ambience of the city was second to none - and made a welcome recluse from the bore and bustle of London.
What really made my trip amazing though was the hostel we stayed in. The Globetrotter Inn - www.globetrotterinns.com was top notch - and would smash the expectations of anyone who was used to hostel accommodation in the UK or Europe!
It was located about 10 minutes out of the city - on the shores of the Firth of Forth (a river) and the views were awesome. The staff were friendly, the on site bar has a 24-hour license, there is a self catering kitchen, bar meals, supermarket, cinema, internet cafe and brilliant King size single bunks with privacy curtains and reading lights. Brekkie was included and we only paid £10.00 per night! Talk about bargain.
To make things EVEN better they recommended us to a company - Do it with XS who sorted out a wicked day of white water rafting and quad biking. I had no idea you could do so much in Scotland - and it was only about an hour out of the centre.
GO TO SCOTLAND.... After 3 year o/s it's so far my favourite.
