    Hello,

I was interested to have everyones ideas/tips on travelling on a budget.
Im planning a trip to oz and nz, however unable to work due to visa requirements.
Im going to be on a very tight budget.

Any tips would be most gratefully received.

    Thanks

    Hey!

Even though you don't have a working visa, some backpacker places still let you do a bit of work for a free night's accom, and dinner. Yes they're naughty but it does help!!

Also, I always find i end up spending HEAPS more money on food than I really should. If you go and buy pre-packaged/canned food from the supermarket I found I saved a fair bit of moolah. Eg, if you go and buy a box of breakfast bars, that's 8 days worth of brekkys for $3.

You can also make your tissues go a lot further by only using one ply at a time!! Yes, I am a poor, sad girl! :(

A good way to save money if you want to do trips out of major cities, is to check out the local bushwalking/tramping clubs (or any other type of outdoor activity..). You can often walk with clubs as a visitor, either for free or a few $, plus chipping in for petrol....they might also have longer trips. Melbourne's YHA bushwalking club has overnight walks or long weekends to different parts of Victoria, and they get group discounts on accomodation...

This site has links to many mountaineering/tramping clubs in NZ & around the world - http://www.chamois.org.uk/world/
